Opportunity

Healthcare and wellness providers are not evenly or equitably dispersed across the United States. Consumers in rural geographies often must travel long distances to access care and face limited options at high costs. Immobile or homebound individuals may not be able to access care at all.

Solution

HealthDrive addresses a critical need of many residents in skilled nursing facilities by providing a wide array of specialty care–podiatry, optometry, dental, audiology and psychiatry–on site. HealthDrive physicians help remove barriers and enable a more comprehensive treatment experience.

Examples in Action

The HealthDrive team believes that their patients’ mental health matters as much as their physical health.

Kayla Wichowski, Clinical Training Specialist, is part of the behavioral health team and sees the immense benefit of an integrated care solution. “The care industry is moving, and HealthDrive is ahead of the curve,” she said. “We can now work directly with our colleagues in other disciplines, share advice and guidance, and our patients have the benefit of seeing who they need when they need to see them.”

She views the other services provided by HealthDrive as complementary to her own work. “Psychiatrics is about care and comfort; if a patient seems distressed, it is not always a mental health issue. I can turn to other clinicians to make sure that dentistry, optometry, or another part of care is a component of the solution, especially with some of our older patients.” Addressing vision or hearing challenges frequently improves social interactions and relationships that can further improve overall quality of life.

Kayla acknowledges that challenges remain within the industry, but she is grateful to be doing the work that she does.

“Long-term care facilities are very much like going into someone’s home to improve their quality of life, and it’s why I love what I do. These facilities are underserved in a lot of ways, and I’m happy to be a part of a team that is working every day to fix it.”
